Recently a video surfaced of Rutgers men’s basketball coach, Mike Rice, verbally and physically abusing his players at their practices. I agree with what Andrew Sharp writes in his recent article about this hot topic. It is not just Mike Rice that we should be focused on.
Even though the majority of coaches would never dream of physically abusing there players, I would estimate that at least 90 percent of college basketball coaches verbally abuse their players on a regular basis at their practices. I am all for tough love on players because that makes them tougher, but there must be boundaries. Calling players “f*****s” or “c***s” is simply unacceptable. The league should make unexpected and sneaky visits to campuses around the U.S. on a regular basis because nine times out of 10 no one close to the coach or team will step forward with information.
